Andrea Amico, Testing for Pease Co-Founder and Clean Water Advocate Endorses Mindi Messmer for NH Governor’s Executive Council, District 3.

So honored to have the support from Andrea Amico, Testing for Pease Co-Founder and #PFAS activist, for my Executive Council campaign:

“In 2016, Mindi Messmer and I met for coffee. That was about 2 years after I learned that my husband and my young children were exposed to drinking water contaminated with per and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) at work and at daycare at the former Pease Air Force Base. It was a few months after the State of NH acknowledged the high rates of children with cancer and a cancer cluster in a 5-town area on the seacoast. At that first meeting, Mindi and I began working together by forming an alliance between my group, Testing for Pease, and other concerned members in the community. New Hampshire Safe Water Alliance formed in 2017 and we worked closely together to address water contamination issues in our state.

When Mindi was elected to the NH House in 2016, we continued to work together and advocate for change to prevent cancer, protect our drinking water, and protect NH families. We share a common belief that every person has the right to clean water and should never have to question the quality of water coming out the tap.

We also continue to serve together on the Pease Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) where we attend quarterly meetings and work together to make sure the Air Force continues to address the PFAS contamination of our drinking water, surface water, and wildlife from the use of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) to put out fires and during training exercises on the former base.

Mindi’s commitment and voice as a scientist and legislator has been an important part of the advocacy and advances we have made in NH. NH has implemented the strictest in the nation protections on our drinking water for arsenic and PFAS as a result of her work. When implemented, these changes will reduce NH’s cancer rates that are the highest in the nation.

We need people like Mindi in elected positions in NH who care and advocate for our environment and the health of families like mine. Mindi will be an important member of the Governor’s Executive Council and I support her work and her campaign. “
